Chaire Académique internationale VOICES de la Fondation Paris-Saclay, Université Paris-Saclay

The interdisciplinary and international research project VOICES (Volcanic Eruptions and their Impact on Climate, Ecosystems & Socio-economy), co-led by Patrick Schembri (CEARC-UVSQ) and Anita Cadoux (Harvard University-GEOPS-Paris-Saclay Univ.), has been selected by the Paris-Saclay Foundation, University of Paris-Saclay, to receive the "Academic Chair" label from the Paris-Saclay Foundation in July 2025. The Academic Chair brings together, for a period of four years, several partner institutions: Harvard University, GEOPS-Paris-Saclay University, CEARC-UVSQ, University of Tours, Senckenberg, and INRAE. In addition to Patrick Schembri, co-leader and scientific coordinator (WP4) of the Academic Chair, the project involves several members of the CEARC within WP4: Mateo Cordier and Katia Radja.

The VOICES international Academic chair (“Volcanic Eruptions and their Impact on Climate, Ecosystems & Socio-Economy”) aims to anticipate the systemic impacts of a future major explosive volcanic eruption within a context of global climate disruption. The project brings together an interdisciplinary consortium spanning volcanology, atmospheric chemistry-climate modelling, ecological experiments, biodiversity analysis and macro-economic modelling. Within this framework, a Master's level internship is being funded through a call for projects launched by the Geosciences, Climate, Environment, and Planets Graduate School at Paris-Saclay University. This internship will focus on research into the socio-economic impacts of major historical volcanic eruptions. It will begin in February 2026 under the joint supervision of Patrick Schembri and Anita Cadoux.
